American attitudes toward immigration?

Alot of Americans dont like people getting into the states some are even trying to seal the borders! The irony is none of the people in the USA are actually Americans their ancestors moved there to, so what give them the right to say who can come in to the US? I'm Irish by the way and we kind of built that country and now none of us can get in?!
