Quill inside dog after vet PLEASE HELP ME!?

my (technically my roommates) 10 month old Dalmatian was stuck by a porcupine the other night. He bit it, so he had quite a few inside his mouth that were removed by a vet. Well, just a bit ago I noticed a lp under his chin! It seems there is a quill still inside him. I told my roommate, who is currently on vacation, and she said oh well! OH WELL! I am so so so mad. She will throw hundreds of $ away for their beagle but not for a dog she begged her husband for for years!! I don't think the vet will take it out for little to nothing which is all I can afford. So please please PLEASE tell me how I can get it out! Will it work it's way out? If it doesn't, what then. I get teary eyed thinking of being without this dog! he is the sweetest dog I have ever met and it is actually really hard for me to get attached to an animal! So please, any suggestions you have will help so much!!! please
