Is Irish dancing a talent? and is it actual dancing?

I have been Irish dancing for about 6 years. I have never been in competition but is it a talent or actual dancing? Like if someone asks have you ever got experience in dancing what do I say? Yes or no? And is Irish dancing geeky to you? Please give your honest answers.
